Racism; What is it? If we ask anyone about it we get a common answer which is the discrimination between black and white-colored people, different caste, or different religions. It is a common example of racism not a meaning of racism.
But what is it?
MEANING of RACISM
According to the Oxford Dictionary, “The inability or refusal to recognize the rights, needs, dignity, or value of people of particular races or geographical origins.”
Different countries may have a different basis of racism which the most common is in the skin color of black and white. In countries like the USA, Britain they assume black people as slaves. While in India in the 21st century most of the states are racist on the basis caste and creed.
TYPES OF RACISM
In India friendship or any kind of relationship is still based on caste and creed while in other countries on skin color. Its the mindset of the people of the white skin or the high caste that the low caste or the black-skinned people are impure. They can’t be friends, cannot visit religious people, can’t study in the same school with white or high caste people like its the mindset that the low caste and black-skinned people are born to work under them that is to be slaves.
They are not allowed to dream big, not allowed to pray and even they are not even considered.
In India, the most common discrimination is between males and females.
RACISM IN INDIA
Taking consideration of India, if someone is married all people decide the beauty of the girl by her skin color. The mentality is such that we are invited by the girl’s side, her father organizes a marriage function from most of his saving tries to make all guests happy still some people don’t leave a chance to gossip about the color of the bride.
Keeping this aside now if we go through any matrimonial sites or newspapers we always find a man gives a proposal for good looking and white skin girls. Almost 99% proposal will contain these types of words.
Why all this type of discrimination between human beings?
The knowledge, the education we gain does teach us to promote all these?
The biggest discrimination is between males and females.
In the olden days, people don’t use to give any respect to women. They are always considered to be below men and was considered that their only job to born is to serve their husband.
WORKS OF GREAT PEOPLE
Great people like Raja Rammohan Ray, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar fought for the rights of the women to end the system of child marriage, stopping the rule of sati, widow remarriage, and lifting of the caste system which were the main crime of that time over women. These were considered to be the most shameful act of that time.
Some discrimination was taken off by law by the British Government and some by making the people educated.
RACISM STILL DIDN’T STOP
Still, some discrimination between men and women cannot be stopped like wanting a male child, not equal pay for equal work, some family doesn’t allow their daughter in law to work outside as they still think women’s place is to do the household works only.
Some states still follow the caste rule system that low caste people are not allowed to enter religious people. Marriage based on caste is still on for most of the states.
RACISM IN OTHER COUNTRIES
Countries like the USA, Great Britain treat black people as slaves.
Recently a case in the USA where there was a great march to protect the black-skinned people as they were not given any respect. There were a slogan ‘Black Lives Matters’ as there was no value in the life of black people. This total incident has shaken the whole world.
CAN EDUCATION STOP RACISM IN THE SOCIETY?
It is true that education has the power to change the thought on what is right and what is wrong, it gives the power to think, justify, and do.
If we see in India, the education system changed the mindset of many people. But there are some barriers which don’t let to use the knowledge to stop racism. There are people of the old generation who give racism more priority than education. There doesn’t let to stop the race of racism fully.
If we come through countries like USA the education there is very much improved but racism in them comes through ego as white people think they are like the kings of black people and can do anything with them. White people do not consider black people as humans and for these black people don’t get proper education, justice.
TREATMENT OF RACISM
As education is not enough to get rid of racism thus it is irrecoverable. This is also a pandemic where if something goods happen due to racism another person follows it even if he/she is educated. No education, knowledge has the power to make a racist free world.
The only possible way to get out and stay safe of this is to stay away from this and consider every human being as a red-blooded human being and love everyone. Only love has the power to end racism from this world.
As there is no treatment of racism so it is considered as the only irrecoverable pandemic of the world which can’t kill you but can kill the person whom you think are below you.
